Background
In September 2022, a select group of experts in sustainability in cities convened at the United Nations General Assembly Science Summit. Their focus was on the critical themes:

(1) Planetary Accounting: Translating Planetary Boundaries Into Actionable Metrics 

(2) Positive Energy Districts: Lessons from the EU and Pathways for African Adaptation

(3) Collaborative Pathways: Methods and Approaches for Advancing Policy Together

(4) Smart Mobility in Brussels: Opportunities and Equity Considerations for African Urban Futures

 

The outcomes of this gathering led to the establishment of several working groups tasked with advancing the insights and priorities identified at the conference.
In January 2023, the City working group was launched. This group contributed directly to the book titled: GHG Mitigation and Cities; the potential for Positive Energy Districts
